Starting the Year Together

January marks a point of transition across Jefferson County. Many organizations are closing out reporting cycles, reflecting on what the past year revealed, and laying the groundwork for what comes next. At the same time, new efforts are beginning: training programs, career connections, planning processes, and new ways to participate and connect.

Our county offers an abundance of ways to get involved, learn, and contribute: from workforce training and community planning to mentoring, volunteering, sharing creative work, convening, and supporting local businesses. Here is just a small collection of events, resources, and opportunities coming up this month. None of these efforts stand alone. Each reflects people showing up (in organizations, businesses, and networks) to do the ongoing work of strengthening Jefferson County. Together, they offer a glimpse of how people are investing in this place as the year gets underway.

Growing Local Business Support—One Cohort at a Time

In December, we celebrated the graduation of our most recent Recompete Business Advisor cohort—local professionals who completed an intensive training program focused on supporting small businesses across Jefferson and Clallam counties. These advisors bring deep experience, practical skills, and a shared commitment to helping local businesses navigate growth, change, and resilience. Businesses can reach out to the advisors directly for advising services (free advising sessions may be available!)

As this cohort steps into their advising work, we’re also preparing for what comes next. Applications are now open for the next Business Advisor Training cohort. If you—or someone you know—are interested in developing advising skills and contributing to the local business ecosystem, we invite you to learn more and apply.
